As a stranger in Muscat, one quickly notices that there are surprisingly many tailoring shops in Mutrah, the old center of trading in Muscat. The vast number of small ladies tailoring shops are in fact a giveaway about the cultural habit in Oman, where omanis prefer having their traditional costumes tailormade rather than buying them readymade. Finding the quiet streets of Mutrah with its many tailorshops very fascinating, I focused on the city landscape with the cultural identity factor of the tailorshops as an anchorpoint along the way.
