Lake Vellayani is a small lake just outside of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of the state of Kerala, in the very south of India. Although it is only about 15 km from the city, it is a very quiet and rural area, and there is no sign of the bustle of the nearby city, nor of the more touristic vibes of the even closer Kovalam Beach. The lake is surrounded by palm trees and farmland, and during weekends local men meet at the shores of the lake to fish and hang out. There is probably nothing special about it. That is probably why I liked it so much.
